We envision a world where everyone lives life as fast or slow and as loud or quiet as they could be. Knowing that life is a gift, and love is the point.
We live out our purpose by pursuing four goals:
We create spaces of healing from shame and things we are afraid to talk about because we believe open dialogue rights wrongs.
We practice consensual vulnerability with each other, mindfulness with those we disagree with, empathy with those we would rather ignore, and kindness with those we dislike.
We guide the underserved through opportunities.
Our programs and services encourage upward mobility for the underserved. We offer educational scholarships and financial grants to youth and young professionals to further their education, hone their employment and entrepreneurial skills, and address short-term financial gaps that lead to despair and homelessness. We also provide individuals of all ages with the training and resources they need to lead others, innovate, and make a social impact.
We serve and lead others by example rather than meaningless words.
We offer experiential leadership training and coursework to help leaders think critically about a wide variety of topics. These topics include global relationships, intercultural competence and communication, feminist studies, LGBTQ+ studies, and climate change. We pursue thought leaders to motivate us to move our world in the direction of equity, equality, sustainability, and peace.
We live a non-violent way of life.
We organize workshops and peace-building retreats to inspire a nonviolent way of life as the only acceptable, courageous, and justifiable way to advocate for social justice. Our dialogues explore critical ideas and time-tested approaches to peacebuilding and nonviolence communication.
Mwangi Mukami is an ecumenical minister, writer, feminist, a recovering addict, and the global lead of the MLIFE Foundation.
From 2014-2018, Mwangi served as the first Kenyan American Chairman of the Shelter Monitoring Committee (SMC) in San Francisco, California. As Chair, he championed for and led to an overhaul of the data collection and reporting system of shelters, and the creation of a Domestic Violence Policy to ensure that families and children experiencing domestic violence were not denied access to family shelters on the premise that their spouse or partner was violent.
Mwangi immigrated to the United States in 2009 after an illustrious public service career that spanned over a decade. As Chairman for Africa of the Martin Luther King, Jr., Africa Foundation (2006-2009), Mwangi promoted Dr. King’s non-violence message by training 16,000+ youths in peace and non-violence advocacy across eight cities in Africa. Mwangi also instituted and served as the founding Youth President of the National Youth Parliament of Kenya (2004-2005), a Non-governmental organization that organized 18-35-year-old youths together to learn about parliamentary systems and promote democracy. Before youth parliament, Mwangi had served as the first male elected Junior President of the Kenya Children’s Cabinet, an organization involved in developing the participation of children in decision-making processes.
Mwangi is an MPA graduate student at the University of California Berkeley. He attended San Francisco State University, graduating Magna cum laude with a Double Major in Political Science and International Relations. Mwangi also holds an Associate in Science, Social and Behavioral Sciences, with honors, and an Associate in Arts, Arts, and Humanities, with honors from the City College of San Francisco.
In 2013, Mwangi was conferred the President’s Service Award by 44th President of the United States, Barack Obama. His other meritorious achievements include the Senate Recognition Resolution by the Georgia General Assembly, the Gandhi Peace Award, and the Morris Brown Medal of Peace amongst others.
Mukami is passionate about governance and candidly philanthropic. He is a mobilizer in the community, a mentor to many, and a leadership guru. A lover of books, Mwangi spends time reading, writing, and reviewing them. At home, he plays with his three-year-old son, Jonathan because his other kids; Sherilynn, Lincoln, and Cheyanne prefer to do other exciting things than play with their aging dad.
