In response to recent political developments in Kenya, MLIFE Foundation has decided to suspend all in-person activities in Nairobi and Kilifi, effective immediately until further notice. We made this decision with the utmost concern for our participant’s and staff’s safety and well-being amidst ongoing political unrest.
One of the immediate impacts of this decision is the suspension of Human ’24, MLIFE’s annual conference initially scheduled to be held in Nakuru, Kenya. This conference, which brings together over 100 leaders from the United States, Accra, and Nairobi, plays a pivotal role in our mission to foster leadership and community development.
Additionally, the incoming cohort of MLIFE Fellows will now convene remotely starting on July 31, 2024. This adjustment aims to ensure the continuity of our fellowship program while prioritizing the safety of our fellows and staff members.
Furthermore, the 2024 MLIFE Heritage Tour, a cultural exchange program bringing students from California to Kenya, scheduled for July 26 through August 5, 2024, has been postponed until further notice.
“We express deep concern regarding reports of abductions, unjustifiable arrests, and unjust detentions by law enforcement,” stated Mwangi Mukami, President of MLIFE Foundation. “We commend President William Ruto for his decisive actions, including his stance on the finance bill, cabinet dissolution, and the acceptance of the Inspector General of Police’s resignation. We urge continued dialogue and action to address systemic issues such as corruption and public debt.”
MLIFE Foundation remains steadfast in our commitment to supporting the people of Kenya during these challenging times. We stand in solidarity with Kenyan citizens exercising their right to peaceful assembly and advocating for justice and accountability.
As we navigate these uncertainties, the MLIFE Foundation will monitor the situation closely and provide updates as new information becomes available. Our hearts and thoughts are with the people of Kenya as they work towards a peaceful and prosperous future.
